“It went very smoothly. From our standpoint we were really pleased with the additions to the program and the students’ response,” shared Corporate Work Study’s Curriculum Program Coordinator Mike Cecchin about the two-week course. This year the CWSP office created an orientation experience for the first day instead of moving right into the MAPS curriculum. Students were introduced to ICA Cristo Rey’s staff members, and the services available to students, providing a bigger picture of ICA Cristo Rey as a whole.
This year the downtown field trip, always a student favorite, also had a revamp. With Work Study partners opening up their offices for students, incoming Spartans got a feel for the offices themselves, as opposed to previous years where the excursion was more about getting comfortable with commuting. Morrison Foerster, Clint Reilly Holdings, and Heffernan Insurance were the downtown hosts, and St. Philips and Beacon College Funding Solutions were local hosts. “It was very generous of those companies to offer to let groups of twenty-or-so kids come and visit,” Mike Cecchin went on to comment.
Now the Corporate Work Study office is finishing up job placements for these students from MAPS, taking into account the student surveys, skills tests that are common among most Cristo Rey Network schools, and the personal experiences of the students in class.
Work begins with the senior class on August 19th.
