On Sunday, December 1, The Guardsmen celebrated their members and their families at the annual Family Day Tree Lot Party. 18 Guardsmen Spartan Scholars went to the Tree Lot at Fort Mason to volunteer their time and help with the festivities.
The Guardsmen are long-time partners with ICA Cristo Rey, providing over $40K in scholarships to 22 students. Our Guardsmen Scholars were happy to give of their time and energy for this event as a “thank you” for The Guardsmen’s commitment and support during their time at ICA Cristo Rey. One Guardsmen scholar at the event, Luz Perez ‘21, said, “The event was a whole lot of fun. It is very fulfilling because I am a Guardsmen scholarship recipient and I know how hard they work to fund my education.” The Guardsmen share our commitment to providing equity in education and accessibility to programs and opportunities to ALL youth in San Francisco.
One of our four “pillars” at ICA Cristo Rey is Service. At ICA Cristo Rey we try to invoke the importance of giving back and gratitude. Guardsmen Scholar Karly Mejia ‘21 said, “I am honored to be able to give back to an organization who helps me. I am honored to receive a scholarship from the Guardsmen.” This is why it was important for our Spartans to show gratitude by giving of their time to this wonderful organization. As one of our Spartans said at the event, “I am having a really fun time. This is such a wonderful experience. It is amazing to give back to this great organization.”
The Guardsmen Tree Lot is located at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, 2 Marina Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94123 and is open from 9 am - 9 pm every day until December 20th.
