ICA Cristo Rey Turns 135

November 29, 2018 marked ICA Cristo Rey’s 135th birthday. Dr. George Fornero, the school’s principal, shared the multi-generational story with heart and humor. Remarking that in 1876, San Francisco was considered “a foreign mission,” Dr. Fornero said, “Had it not been for Mother Pia agreeing to travel from Brooklyn to San Francisco back then, we wouldn’t be here today.”

Building a System of Gender Equity

Katica Roy, CEO of Pipeline Equity, a company driven to break down systemic barriers to gender equity, recently visited and shared her story and her mission with our Spartans. “Women aren’t broken, the system is,” Katica noted, before discussing ways to challenge systemic barriers to equity.

Famous Hip-Hop Artist Shares His Story

Last month famous painter and hip-hop artist Chali 2na visited campus, by invitation from ICA’s Black Student Union, to speak about his life story and artistry. After speaking with the student body he said, “I liked the maturity level of the girls, especially in this day and time, with the climate in America. Their minds were engaged.”
