Building a College Culture

Going into the 2019-2020 school year, ICA Cristo Rey is renewing its commitment to providing a college culture for all its students through the expansion of its Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings, and curriculum updates for all students. For the first time, ICA Cristo Rey will offer AP US History, AP English Language and Composition, AP Calculus, and the AP Seminar course, bringing our total number of AP offerings to 10. Additionally, all juniors will take a new research-intensive course in Catholic Social Teaching.

49ers General Counsel Advises Spartans

Hannah Gordon, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for the San Francisco 49ers, spoke last month at a school assembly about the magic of a legal career, persevering through difference, and her favorite super powers. “Learn to use the power your difference brings you,” she advised our young women.

A Cristo Rey Spirit for Social Justice

ICA Cristo Rey students recently attended the Fourth Annual Bay Area Teach-In for Social Justice. Senior Ty Chavez called it “a great opportunity to meet other students who have the same ideologies. To talk with other Cristo Rey students was an amazing opportunity as well.”

CWSP Hosts a Holy Hour

The Corporate Work Study Program recently hosted its annual Holy Hour in San Francisco. “This event is fun. It’s a great chance to bond with teachers as a supervisor and share our stories,” remarked Aminta Garcia, Senior Director of Quality Control Management at First Republic Bank.

ICA Cristo Rey among recipients of Network Funds

January 8, 2019 (Chicago) – Today, the Cristo Rey Network announced Network school recipients for the organization’s Test Prep Fund. This fund, made possible by the generosity of John and Charlene O’Shea, aims to strengthen college preparatory and test preparation work already underway network-wide.

Fr. Foley Delightfully Celebrates the Immaculate Conception with ICA Cristo Rey Academy

Fr. John P. Foley, S.J., founder of the Cristo Rey Network, recently visited to celebrate our Patron Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Fr. Foley recollected his first visit--the Opening Mass of the school’s first year in the Network--as well as the first years of the Network: “We are greater than the sum of our parts, and that is the Holy Spirit.”

$5 Million for Endowment campaign

John A. Sobrato of The Sobrato Family Organization has given a bequest of $5 Million to ICA Cristo Rey's $60 Million Endowment campaign.

ICA Cristo Rey Turns 135

November 29, 2018 marked ICA Cristo Rey’s 135th birthday. Dr. George Fornero, the school’s principal, shared the multi-generational story with heart and humor. Remarking that in 1876, San Francisco was considered “a foreign mission,” Dr. Fornero said, “Had it not been for Mother Pia agreeing to travel from Brooklyn to San Francisco back then, we wouldn’t be here today.”
