Please choose two of the following writing prompts. Write a well developed paragraph or two and be sure to give specific examples.  Qualities that will be assessed: Structure, Evidence, Creativity, Organization, Use of Vocabulary and Development of ideas.

Option 1: The Dominican motto “Veritas” or truth reflects the school’s ideals and responsibilities to assist students in their search for the truth. Here at ICA Cristo Rey, students are encouraged to live out their truths by embracing their unique experiences, gifts, and talents. Describe three important experiences, gifts and talents that make up who you are and why they are important. In other words: what is your truth?

Option 2: ICA Cristo Rey is centered on the four Dominican pillars of Prayer, Study, Community and Service. Through the application of these pillars, students develop their curiosity, courage and confidence which leads them to embrace their dreams and potential. Exercise: Think of an event in your life that changed you as a person having to do with one of the four pillars of Prayer, Study, Community, or Service. Describe this event and explain how it changed you.

Option 3: ICA Cristo Rey is a community. Every person in the school, no matter if they are a teacher, staff member, or student, brings their gifts and talents to the community to make it a better place. Some use their talent in science or English class; others are funny or great leaders; some are kind and helpful. The result is we are a stronger community because of the people in it. Exercise: What does it mean to you to belong to a community?? What gifts and talents will you bring to the ICA Cristo Rey Community? How will your gifts and talents make ICA Cristo Rey a better community?

Option 4: Everybody learns differently. For example, some people like to read to learn, or look at images. Some people like to listen or talk to others. And some learn best by doing. And there are many other ways as well. Exercise: How do you think you learn best? What are some examples of you learning something really well? How can you use this learning style to help you in high school or college or even in a job in the future?

Option 5:  We all face problems in our daily lives and it can be frustrating sometimes. But, we all also have different ways to solve these problems. Exercise: How do you solve problems when they happen in your life? Give an example of a problem that you had and how you solved it. What did you learn from that experience that you can use in future problems?

Option 6: What type of career field do you think you would be best suited to work in? (Some examples might include medical, legal, technology, marketing, etc.) Or, if you could choose a company in the Bay Area to work for who would it be and why? (Examples of companies might include Levis, Google, San Francisco General Hospital, YouTube, United Airlines, etc.)

ICA Cristo Rey admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.
