Engineering in Action

This summer, 20 girls in grades 4–11 joined ICA and UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering for a hands-on engineering camp designed to introduce them to the many possibilities within the field. Campers explored air and water purification, construction systems, water quality, and infrastructure engineering through hands-on learning and visits to UC Berkeley’s Structures Lab, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Water Plant, and engineering firm TYLin.

The week wrapped up with campers presenting what they learned to family and friends, and a special appearance from UC Berkeley’s Oski!

We’re grateful to our partners at UC Berkeley for helping the next generation of young women see themselves as future engineers. Thank you to UC Berkeley's staff and faculty for making this dream to empower the next generation of STEM leaders possible and in particular camp leaders Dr. Maya Carrasquillo, Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Kelly Vernon, Director of Spirit.
