ICA Cristo Rey & St. Mary's College Dual-Enrollment Class: Psychology 100
ICA Cristo Rey Academy and St. Mary’s College of California are pleased to announce the piloting of a new dual-enrollment academic program between the two institutions. St. Mary’s will enroll ICA Cristo Rey students in their fall-semester Psychology 100 - Introduction to Psychology course at no additional cost to students’ families and students will receive three college credits upon completion of the course. The course is offered on ICA Cristo Rey’s campus twice a week and taught by Makenzie O’Neil, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Psychology at St. Mary’s College of California. Classes take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:15pm for a total of 150 minutes of class instruction per week over 15 weeks. Dr. O’Neil earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Gonzaga University, Masters of Psychology from the University of Chicago, and Ph.D, Social Psychology from Arizona State University. Sixteen students from the Class of 2023 enrolled in the new offering and are excited to experience a college level course and start earning college credits. The Psychology 100 course typically helps meet degree requirements for undergraduate degrees in Bachelors of Science in Psychology. The course will provide an introduction to the science of how people think, feel, and behave. They will explore such topics as cognition, personality, culture, social interaction, development, emotion, and psychopathology. Students will learn about classic and contemporary research, a range of methods, and discover how psychology informs our understanding of what it means to be human. ICA Cristo Rey is pleased to work with St. Mary’s College to pilot this program and create a blueprint for expanding college course offerings for the Cristo Rey Network schools in the Bay Area. |
